51 years is a number that sounds good. 51 years of Freedom, 51 years without dictatorship.

We seem to be “gaining ground”. More than half a century in which we’ve stopped reading blue, in which we don’t need to count how many of us are in a room at the same time, in which we don’t speak quietly or refuse to speak, and choose to think only in silence. It’s 50 years + 1 and also an opportunity to reflect.

Are we arriving at a concrete place built on the absolute certainty that we are not returning to where we once were? That we will no longer accept being deprived of our Freedom, tied down, limited, and told who we are and who we should be? Do we live with the unshakeable confidence that we have gained irrefutable ground over the years?

No.

We only fail to recognize the ruggedness of the terrain if we don’t look around and at what’s happening in the world. We only fail to acknowledge the multiplication of stones on the path if we only look at ourselves. They’re not the kind of stones you put together and one day build a castle; they’re the kind that destroy. They destroy castles, cities, organizations, and entire nations and begin to create cracks in that secret place that is our thoughts, beliefs, values, and certainties. They are the kind of stones that hurt and go against everything we have been building over the last 51 years.

Are we stumbling more and paying less attention to the path? Are we complicit in the state of things? Who are we, what do we stand for, and what kind of Future do we want?

It’s not always easy to keep your spirits high, your morale, and your optimism above all else. We must understand everything we are experiencing: armed conflicts, Climate Change, Disinformation, Economic Stagnation, Sustainability, and Inclusion. It’s hard to sleep peacefully, wake up calmly, and start everyday life with the confidence that it can only be good, that the algorithm will show us beautiful things, and that there will be more hope for the Future.

At Casa do Impacto, the watchword is Future. We work for a better future—a more sustainable, representative, inclusive, equitable, and fair Future. We believe it’s worthwhile, that what we do today can have a positive effect on the times to come and those that follow. We believe that we can make a difference in this generation and others. But we know it’s a Herculean task for many people. Of all people.

We need to work to multiply this desire to do more, to include, to help, and to transform society, and we have total and irrefutable confidence that this is only possible in Freedom.

Let’s not take for granted what has been given to us by so many who have fought and given their rights and lives for our Freedom, for a dignified and free life. May we be attentive to the world, to the transformations, to the challenges, to those who first feel the stones on the path. May we be empathetic and supportive and keep our class consciousness sharp. We don’t want to be complicit, and silence remains the greatest weapon against our Freedom.

For an Impact Society. Which will always be free.
