In a world that is constantly changing, it is becoming increasingly essential to cultivate the values of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. These principles are not just ideals to apply in the workplace or institutions – they are expressions of our commitment to a fairer, more empathetic, and humane coexistence. Every gesture of Inclusion is a step towards a society where everyone has room to grow, contribute, and be recognized. Being part of a community is, above all, a daily exercise in respecting and valuing others.

The United Nations General Assembly declared May 21, 2002, World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, following UNESCO’s adoption of the 2001 Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity. This initiative celebrates not only the richness of the world’s cultures but also the essential role of intercultural dialogue in achieving peace and sustainable development.

Celebrating Diversity Month is an opportunity to highlight the significance of Diversity as an agent of Inclusion and Positive Change and reflect on its contribution to dialogue, mutual understanding, and the social, environmental, and economic vectors of Sustainable Development.

At Casa do Impacto, we make a point of living by these principles in all the areas, dynamics, activities, and forums we promote and integrate. We strive to achieve the balance that only representativeness allows, but we continue to learn. We want to keep learning because we believe this is the way forward, but we know we can’t do it alone. We need to surround ourselves with people who know these issues inside out; we need voices and actions to guide us; we need those who make this Society diverse and who, just by existing, already invite it to receive better, welcome, and include. To normalize lives, contexts, origins, skins, and bodies.

Diversity has a lot to say about it. It’s about identity— gender, sexuality, and ethnicity. It’s about origin and nationality. It’s about disability. It’s about what we can’t choose, about who we are, regardless of what the world tells us we should and can be.

Inclusion is the next step, the obligatory path. The only one that allows us to live in a community, respecting each other’s rights, duties, and spaces. Above all, it’s about fairness. If the conditions in which we arrive in the world are different, it seems evident that the way we “survive” them is too. It seems obvious that we should try to compensate for this with other conditions and facilities for those who don’t have them, compared to the many others who were born privileged due to factors as chaotic as luck.

If life isn’t fair on its own, then it’s up to us to counteract and build up this forced Equality through Fairness. It is a good mission to us, a task that, step by step, brings us closer to the Impact Society.

We can’t talk about Diversity and Representativeness if it’s talk if we don’t show how we can apply it daily and as a modus operandi through tools, methodologies, and concrete actions.

We’re not experts, but we want to be better.

We want to inform ourselves, enlighten ourselves, and include, facilitate, and transmit this message of acceptance, Inclusion, facilitation, and example. We want to have the experts at our side to discuss this issue, share their experiences, set an example, and make us see the world differently from the perspective of those who experience it on their skin, in their bodies, and in their lives.

We want to find realistic and practical solutions to start applying now.

Will you join us? We need everyone on board!
