You only have to look around to realize that we need to take urgent action to try to counteract what seems to be a dead end. It can no longer be just Non-Governmental Organizations, Volunteer Institutions, or Individuals who want to do good with their own hands and who, against the tide, step forward to change the world.

The world changes when there is an effective systemic change that alters the way it moves structurally. But it always takes someone to take the first step and many people to follow in a leap of faith.

The Department of Entrepreneurship and Social Economy, which includes Casa do Impacto, believes that we can generalize how we look at and practice Sustainability, whether Social or Environmental, not only through the work of Impact Entrepreneurs.

This great principle of Sustainability is within the reach of any Public or Private institution. The trend (and the need) is generalizing to all sectors and areas. ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) measures are beneficial goals that Companies can apply in various ways. The corporate focus is no longer just on making a profit but also on the social and environmental spheres that allow work to be increasingly ethical, always putting People and Communities at the center of everything through accountability. And everyone, as an Ambassador for this type of methodology and tool, is responsible for taking this “new” way of being into their more informal and intimate circles.

Corporate Volunteering gives purpose to a company’s Employees and nurtures their commitment to creating a positive Impact on society. Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa takes this commitment seriously within the Institution and promotes opportunities for other Companies to put it into practice, facilitating corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Last Friday, February 7, SCML made two pieces of equipment available for painting by a group of 39 workers from DXC Technology with the valuable sponsorship of Magjacol paints.

The part of the Branco Rodrigues Home for university students and the private rooms of the Santana Orthopedic Hospital that were the target of this volunteering action will never be the same again! Not only did they improve the lives of all the people who passed through, but they also contributed to the generalization of practices such as Corporate Volunteering, which not only has an impact on those who do it directly but also on other Companies who may follow suit, “Corporate Volunteering is one of the most effective and rewarding ways of opening SCML’s doors to the business community, making known the scope of our intervention and, at the same time, feeling the commitment that our partners and their teams bring to our House, with the desire to improve the well-being of users. We want to thank the DXC Technology team for the energy they put into their work. It was an enriching experience, reinforcing the importance of empathy and commitment, which we try to bring to every partnership.”, believes Maria da Cunha, Director of the Sustainability and Social Responsibility Unit of the Entrepreneurship and Social Economy Department.

This positioning of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa guarantees that not only does what we do in-house make a difference but that by facilitating the work of other Organizations through Corporate Volunteering, we can maximize on a large scale a positive Impact that democratizes Sustainability as a focal point and not just a “nice to have.” Find out how the Corporate Volunteering Day went here!
